Novice: not booting after img install

Hello, I'm a rasberry pi user who just got his first orange pi PC.  I can't get a Lubuntu or a debinan img to boot.
symptoms:
1)  can see a red led lit as well as the LEDs on the Ethernet cable (which I'm not using).
2)  Power is coming from USB port on a mac desktop or from Dell monitor plugged into coaxial DC input on the board.
      current meter inline with USB shows about 0.5 amps @ 5 volts then slowly goes down to 0.35 Amps
3) There is no video signal.  video out from HDMI goes to HDMI-to-DVI converter then into a Dell monitor.
4) apple keyboard is plugged in

expectation:if it were busy booting I would have expected to see the current get up to 1.5 amps.  If my USB port was unable to drive the required current then it would not be showing 5v. And the ports should drive more than 0.4 amps anyhow--- mac USB ports are high current.

I installed the image as follows.
1) downloaded new image of Lubuntu listed as appropiate for orangePI PC from the orange pi website.
2) unxz into an .img file on a macintosh.
3) use dd -bs=4m to copy .img file to /dev/disk4  on mac where /dev/disk4 is a 32GB level 10 mini SD card.
4) observer the disk is now mounted on mac under name BOOT.  I see a bunch of scripts and some other files.
5) place this into the orangePI and power it on.

Regression:
two things I subsequently tried to get it to boot.
I did not run any of the scripts but I did pick one of the scripts  ( OPI_PC_720p-60) and copied it to the filename script.bin.  I also copied the boot file UImage-OPI-2 for the orange pi PC to the appropriate boot uimage.
Finally as an alternative I put the debian image from the OrangePi resource page (google drive) onto an 8GB SD card (level 10) that I had previously tested with a raspberry pi.


I'm stuck.  I never see a green LED on the board.

If you see the red LED, the boot proces is started (at least the u-boot).
Probably the problem is hdmi->dvi adapter, I think I've seen the reports that it is not working, search the forum.
If it is the problem, you'll have to use hdmi port or hdmi->vga adapter.
Try to connect ethernet cable and login via ssh (check IP on your router), maybe your OPI is working and you only don't see anyththing on you monitor.

Hi,

   Today I received mu OPIpc, happy but,
I have the same problem with Cems, with Ubuntu image on SD card, only red LED was ON, nothing on output video..
When I push power button for 5 sec. red LED was OFF but from then, anything I do, this is still OFF and nothing  ON, only RJ45 LED's from network is ON always
Pleas some tips or help to start this great toy !

could you please explain how I apply the script.fex modification.  Also does this also explain the lack of a green light on the board.

As a test I just tried pluggin the HDMI into an HDMI monitor.   I still never got a green light.  just a red light.

Now as far as SSHing in by ethernet, I'm puzzled.  How can I ssh in if it has not booted?  if it had booted would the light not be green?  Or does it boot far enough to start ssh but not trun the light green because it stops on the video?

If I did ssh in, then what would I be looking for?

It is normal that you only have red LED on. The green LED never comes on ! (at least with my images)
You can try ssh to see if the board had booted (maybe you just dont have video output).
If the board boots and you don't have video output, check hdmi cable and monitor.

Update.
   I tried a few more things with one interesting result.  I tried using an 8GB SD card instead of a 32GB SD card but nothing changed.  I tried using the wrong script image for my HDMI monitor.  My monitor wants 60HZ so I tried using the 50HZ script.  What happened was the monitor itself displayed a message saying the HDMI input signal was an unsupported format.  When I changed back to 1080p60HZ OPI-PC script  the monitor did not display any error message.

Therefore I suspect that the SD card is being read at some level.  It's just not booting.

Update.
  I did get this to boot.  I found an installable image on the web, not the official images.  This did not work.  however a few days later they posted an update to Debian Jessie.  I tried this and again it did not work.  However I then did something odd.  I copied the older script.bin and older uimage onto the SD card.  This boots about 2/3 of the time.  It seems to get stuck mid boot frequently.  I still cannot boot it when any screen other that a true HDMI is connected.  It won't boot when I use an HDMI to DV dongle for example.  And I can't boot the HDMI to 720p.  only to 1080p.  Finally I have four different 2.1 amp USB power supplies.  they have subtly different quiescent voltages ranging from 4.95 to 5.5V (all within the tolerance of 5 +/- 0.5 v) .  However only one of them fully boots!  the others seem to get stuck in partway into the boot process.  I've checked the average current draw and this is 0.45 amps.  No obvious reason why this should depend so tightly on the power source.  I've only repeated a few times with each of those non-working sources so maybe it's just luck.  I don't get it to boot every time with the "working" one either.  

Clearly this thing has defective, incomplete software, and either there are extremely serious bugs in the firmware and software or the board's own power system is defective.  I suspect this extreme immaturity of this alpha product along with poor wuality control and rapid variation in the sftware updates explains the varied reports across the web of these things not working for many users while working perfectly for others.

this is not a reliable producr.  Benchmarks show that despite differences in clock speed it is about the same speed as the Banana pi.  It also shamelessly steals the banapi branded drivers which still say "banana pi" when you look at them!  If you are not into frustrating puzzles get a banana or raspbery pi for $10 more.

I am having the similar problem, no red light, just the ethernet lights,i am using the provided power source from orange, a microSd card SanDisk ultra type 10 32gb.
and it seams opi is dead sadly.
Tryed the android first, then lubuntu.
