hi all,

i have a RK3399 running armbian and a samsung-860-pro-512gb when i boot with this ssd connected using this official cable (which was recommended for this model by the orange pi support email), i get this in dmesg:

  1. sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Attached SCSI removable disk
  2. sd 0:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 0
Copy code

but no other mesage in dmesg related to this device and when i do `fdisk /dev/sda` i get `fdisk: cannot open /dev/sda: No medium found`

however when i put this ssd in my laptop, it is working correctly.

why is this sata disk not working with the orangepi rk3399, and what can i do to debug this further?

thanks for any insights!

thanks a lot actually i come from the armbian form: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/ ... ments#comment-95009

i suspect this might not have anything to do with armbian though, but might be something hw related.

i tried to install telegram, but it requires a phone number and if i give a fake phone number it tells me that it sent a confirmation sms to the fake one, which i of course cannot receive. :/

why could this be, that the disk is half detected, but no medium found on it? while it does work in other systems (like my laptop?)

What does disk information say? Mounted or unmounted?
Can you view the disk properties in gparted?  Copy them to here?
Is the disk encrypted

the disk is not partitioned at all. as i said in the first post in this thread, dmesg provides only two messages related to this disk:

  1. sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Attached SCSI removable disk
  2. sd 0:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 0
Copy code

and i'm not able to run fdisk on this disk, i get this error:
  1. % fdisk /dev/sda
  2. fdisk: cannot open /dev/sda: No medium found
Copy code

however if i connect a usb/sata converter to the disk, and connect this using usb i see this in dmesg, and fdisk also works correctly:

  1. usb 2-2: new SuperSpeed Gen 1 USB device number 4 using xhci_hcd
  2. usb 2-2: New USB device found, idVendor=152d, idProduct=3569, bcdDevice= 1.17
  3. usb 2-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
  4. usb 2-2: Product: USB to ATA/ATAPI Bridge
  5. usb 2-2: Manufacturer: JMicron
  6. usb 2-2: SerialNumber: DB12345678AA6F
  7. scsi host3: uas
  8. scsi 3:0:0:0: Direct-Access     Samsung  SSD 860 PRO 512G 0117 PQ: 0 ANSI: 6
  9. sd 3:0:0:0: [sdb] 1000215216 512-byte logical blocks: (512 GB/477 GiB)
  10. sd 3:0:0:0: [sdb] 4096-byte physical blocks
  11. sd 3:0:0:0: [sdb] Write Protect is off
  12. sd 3:0:0:0: [sdb] Mode Sense: 53 00 10 08
  13. sd 3:0:0:0: [sdb] Write cache: enabled, read cache: enabled, supports DPO and FUA
  14. sd 3:0:0:0: [sdb] Optimal transfer size 33553920 bytes not a multiple of physical block size (4096 bytes)
  15. sd 3:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI disk
Copy code

so i suspect that there is a problem either with the rk3399 hardware sata support, or the official orangpi rk3399 kernel.

Samsung 860 Pro SATA disk is not compatible with RK3399. RK3399 supports SATA 3.0 interface, while Samsung 860 Pro supports SATA 6.0 interface. Therefore, the data transfer speed between the disk Suika game and the RK3399 may be limited.

RK3399 and the Samsung 860 Pro SATA drive are incompatible. While Samsung 860 Pro supports SATA 6.0 interface, RK3399 supports SATA 3.0 buildnow gg interface. As a result, the speed of data transfer between the disk
