Yes. Wake up and stop dreaming. Simply forget it for the moment, at least for Linux distros. If you want proper HW video acceleration, install a suitable Android distro. For the moment there is no proper Mali / CedarX support in Linux. For the Mali there are some binary blobs, but this does not provide video acceleration. A non-windowed HW acceleration possibility can be found in the forums here, but that does only support a command line non-windowed video player.
Browse around these forums, and you will find it. Also http://www.linux-sunxi.org provides info about progress for Mainline Linux Kernel (4.5) support. The H3 is on the most popular OPI boards is announced for Kernel 4.5. Realize that this still does not bring proper video or 3D acceleration.
Buy a raspberry pi for support, buy OPI if you want a good price and have to figure a lot yourself.... I think the last is also fun, but I don't expect a full blown media player for the amount that OPI boards cost...
