It looks like H3 support was added in sunxi kernel in 4.2:
http://linux-sunxi.org/Linux_mainlining_effort#Merged_into_4.2
H3

Unfortunately no board was added yet. But then the plans for kernel 4.5 are these:
http://linux-sunxi.org/Linux_mainlining_effort#Planned_for_4.5
  • Allwinner H3 SoC support
Added board support: Xunlong Orange Pi Plus

So if the plus is supported it should be really easy to use that on a oPi PC as well. Looks like we will get a very recent kernel pretty soon and we can finally throw away the 3.4 Kernel.

.....for headless applications, yes.  Anything needing accelerated video, however, I think it's going to be a very long (likely eternal) wait indeed.

I don't need HW accel, I'm eager to get newer kernel to dump ugly hacks to have Docker working.

Wait, you mean that you got docker running on the 3.4 kernel?

Docker is what makes me pine for a new kernel, too.  Also, you may want to check out Armbian.  I have been hearing great news of progress with all this from their camp.

It works stable but IO performance is poor - no overlayfs. Add this to generally poor IO of SD cards and you get the picture.

Which distro you are using Docker working ? Have you made some hacks to run it on 3.4 kernel ?

You can patch (https://github.com/adilinden/ove ... s.v13-3.4-rc7.patch)
current orangePi kernel (3.4) to add overlayfs. I tried and the patch has applied without any problem.

You can try https://github.com/tinspin/rupy, probably more lightweight and faster.

Yo ...

Arch Linux, by accident. Any will work with appropriate kernel config.

Anyone managed to get the Orange PI Plus eMMC working with the latest u-boot & mainline kernel?
