Melanrz is spot on for Linux but if you want XBMC you'll want accelerated video drivers which means you want Android. The most popular choice around here is Zidoo X1. My OPI-PC only supports 2 USB ports but other than that runs like a champ. Check out THIS THREAD or look at Android under the Operating Systems forum.
