I have to setup a home server with my OrangePi but I need to implement these stuffs:
- NAS (for this I have an idea I can use Samba protocol)
- RAID 1 (for this I have no idea)
do you have some ideas?

P.S.: can I use expansion board and NAS board parallalel?

I suppose you can setup software RAID1 with a disk connected to a NAS board and external USB hard drive, but I'm not sure if this is good idea.

PS Please also remember that RAID is not a backup.

First you should consider how to connect storage (and do you want like 1TB or 10TB NAS), then what tools to use. I'm using openmediavault on a NAS kit for nanopi with 500GB 2,5 inch hdd and I suppose something similar can be made with opi and NAS board. It isnt fast, but makes his job to keep random stuff available to everyone.

Why doesn't is a backup? With RAID1 you replicate pieces of data in the HDD with RAID1 you're prepared against hw HDD failure

Why doesn't is a backup? With RAID1 you replicate pieces of data in the HDD with RAID1 you're prep ...

Consider those:- RAID failure
- both mirrors failure
- filesystem failure
- other accident where your RAID is (like "fire in the house!!!" or "a lot of water on my RAID!!!")

- you want to use OPiZ for this - a board with, well, poor support, without native SATA (USB-2-SATA bridge)... I would say "don't go this way", but it's your way. ;)

Read about "backup 3-2-1".

RAID is usefull for nonstop availability of your data, not for a backup.
