I finally found some time to try the Orange Pi I ordered when the store opened

First issue I ran into was that the power adapter I ordered is defective, so I am using the micro USB OTG connector to supply power for now.

Second issue is that I keep experiencing annoying pauses when keystrokes, mouse movements and clicks are not recognized. Is there a fix for this?

Regards,

Bill

Does anyone have any suggestions?

My Orange Pi is essentially unusable due to the frequent 2-3 second pauses.

Example: I click on the file menu in Leafpad, it frequently takes 2-3 seconds for it to pull down .

Once the menu shows, it usually takes 2-5 seconds to have the file dialog show up after I click on 'Save'

There is no unusual CPU load showing.

I disabled the console in both cmdline.txt and uEnv.txt, then also disabled the "elevator" mode.

I think there has been a slight improvement - before disabling the above I was only getting 4.69MB/sec for buffered reads with hdparm -tT - but I still get pauses.

Is the SD driver using DMA?

Is there some place I can find the available parameters for uEnv.txt?

The shipped Raspbian image is badly broken by this.

I  ...

I started with Raspbian but have now changed to a Debian kernel.  I never hit the delay problem you speak of.  But I was running console mode and then installed icewm rather than whatever the release had previously.  Here is my uEnv.txt :
  1. bootargs=console=ttyS0,115200 disp.screen0_output_mode=EDID:1280x1024p60 \
  2.          hdmi.audio=EDID:0 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rootfstype=ext4 elevator=deadline rootwait
  3. aload_script=fatload mmc 0 0x43000000 script.bin;
  4. aload_kernel=fatload mmc 0 0x48000000 uImage; bootm 0x48000000;
  5. uenvcmd=run aload_script aload_kernel
Copy code
This is my boot from SD card version.

Cheers,
Steven

Thanks, I'll try the debian image. The pauses are really weird.
