Does OPi PC have any type of overvoltage protection? I connected a 12V adapter instead of 5V one for about 10 mins . All other boards seem to have one. RPi has a overcurrent fuse, Odroid has this. Is there any similar protection on OPi ?
They don't use micro USB as it isn't better. It was designed for small currents of 1.8 max. The orange pi needs a 2A power supply to work so using micro usb would lead to important voltage drops.
I know its a big mistake. But if you are using a power jack that is used for all different values of voltages, cutting cost on overvoltage protection is not something that makes sense (Odroid people are sensible enough to understand it). Otherwise using micro USB is obviously better as it is standardized to 5V. I don't know what makes them use 4.0 x 1.7 mm .

I wonder then how RPi manages to get its rated 2.5 A from Micro USB. Also Quick Charge 2.0, that is extremely common these days, draws 3A over at 5V to deliver 15W of power. No brainer, it also works on Micro USB FYI.
