We need to polish Raspbian for All the devices in order people could be happy

I fully agree. I think the OPi's really have a lot of potential, but to make it easier for beginners (I count myself as one in most areas), it would be good to provide distributions that work as expected, are clearly documented and supported in the forum. The main advantage of the Raspberry Pi is that every complete noob can download images, follow the instructions and get a running system in a blink of an eye that does exactly what it should do.

To be honest, I lost overview which distribution is working on which OPi model, what are the knows bugs and if there are workarounds or even solutions already. As I am visiting the forum quite regularly, I can only imagine, how hard it must be for a newbie, to find his way and get started. IMHO, this has to be changed and improved quickly to give the OPi's the success they deserve.

Yeah. THere are many things which need to be solved. If you go to some exhibition like CES--so when company trying to attract people to their product--they talk about which experience you get when using it --and they are right.
  Lets remember how good we felt when bought first time in our life PlayStation or PSP portable or tablet--lets remember how good experience we got from using the thing. WE could enjoy every second of it--because it is so organised well that you enjoy every second.

  Now I want to ask you--have you seen Android System on Orange PI? I did. I really do not like its state right now. It is horrible to my opinion. THere are really needs to be done something about it.  Like I seen many Android desktops and I am ok to have standard desktop in android--but when there are Launchers--come on people--I will install my own launcher if i will want to--there are bunch  of them at GooglePlay. But here not even googleplay, no youtube, no gmail, nothing present. Well there is possibility to install apps from unknown sources--but hey--why should I install googleplay.apk if i do not know where it came from--in such way security of system is at risk.

   The same with Linuxes. We need to have 1080P by default--nowadays all monitors and TVs come by default with 1080P resolution and to have 720P picture on 1080P monitor makes it look pixelly and not nice. The same with Android--can we make Android to output real 1080P?

And Yes, you are right. Orange Pi has Big potential, just this potentiall needs to be properly used. I wish for every Model of Orange Pi would be Noob package at download section like at Raspberyy Pi--so you download Noob Package-install as many as you want OSs to your memory card and ready to try them all at once...

So to my opinion there needs to be solved many issues in order user could get really good experience....

Hi all. For lack of a more suitable place to write, a few notes. I just got my OPi2 a few days ago, so I only had time to do a few tests so far.

Running the Raspbian image for the OPi2 (Raspbian_For_OrangePi2_mini2_v0_8_0.img from 2015-05-04) I was able to configure both my Ethernet and WiFi interfaces in static mode. I surfed the net with Midori with both interfaces, so network is 100% functional to me. I did not try to use any of them in DHCP mode as I only use static IPs at home. With the Lubuntu image (Lubuntu_1404_For_OrangePi2-mini2_v0_8_0_.img) I was only able to configure the Ethernet interface, but I did not try hard, there is probably a way to also get WiFi working in static mode.

Both Raspbian and Lubuntu were stuck on 720p as OrangePiLinux mentioned. dmesg on Raspbian shows "Kernel command line: console=ttyS0,115200 console=tty0 disp.screen0_output_mode=EDID:1280x720p60 hdmi.audio=EDID:0 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rootfstype=ext4 elevator=deadline rootwait". dmesg on Lubuntu showed something similar (sorry, I've only got one SD available for the this Pi at the moment, I can only test one distro at a time). Somehow neither seem to be able to receive the info from my monitor. I assume I have to change something in /boot/uImage (e.g. script,bin, uEnv.txt or something of the sort), but I have not got to the point of seeing what's inside uImage yet. If anyone can point me to how to see and modify /boot/uImage and save me some time searching for this I'll be grateful.

I read somewhere on the forum a couple people mentioned CPU3 was being shut down for reaching the temperature threshold (they were both using OPiPlus if I recall correctly). This is also happening to me in both Raspbian and Lubuntu for OPi2. Over the weekend CPU3 would shut down during boot every time, today it did not shut down right away, but eventualy it did.

So far this has not done any harm, as all CPUs are just sitting idle, but it would be nice to find out what is causing it.

Somewhere else in the forum people also mentioned not being able to log in with regular user accounts, only with the root account. I have also not been able to log in with the bananapi or orangepi user accounts. I created a new user and had the same problem. I suspect there is some problem with opening a shell session for the regular users. I will tacke this tonight and report anything I find out.

As it seems many people are still waiting for their OPi2s in the mail I'll be glad to run any test on mine as long as it is in Raspbian. I have already messed around a bit with some configs and would rather not overwrite my SD again. As soon as I get a second SD for this Pi I'll be glad to burn any other images for testing. Cheers.

KY69 Thanks for the info. To my opinion  you are very good at commands. you know ll those demesq commands and so on. How did you make screenshots? Are there some commands in Raspbian for it?

I installed scrot, and then to make it more like the way I use my desktop I linked it to the print screen button on my keyboard, so I simply press that button and get the screenshot saved to the SD card. It is easy to find these things online, but for simplicity's sake and assuming it will save some people some time, basically what I did was, as root:

# apt-get install scrot

and then to link the app to the print screen button, I inserted these lines at the appropriate section in ~/.config/openbox/lxde-rc.xml:

  <keybind key="Print">
    <action name="Execute">
      <execute>scrot -e 'mv $f ~/screenshots/'</execute>
    </action>
  </keybind>

By appropriate I mean I inserted them in the   <!-- Keybindings for running applications --> section, then created the subdirectory screenshots in the user's directory (this case /root since it's the only one working for me so far). Log out and log back in or run the command:

# openbox --reconfigure

and you should have screenshots saved to /root/screenshots/ (or any other user's directory once we get those working).

Last night I was not able to play with my OPi2, perhaps tonight I will, so I did not look into the regular user account problem yet. I hope the few lines above have helped somehow.

Created memory card accordingly to instructions and tried to run it on Orange Pi, ORange Pi Plus and on ORange Pi 2. IT does not work. Orange Pi did not start--just showed red LED.  Orange Pi Plus started Android recorded to internal memory, and the same with Orange Pi 2.

  So looks like all Rapberry Pi software is not compatible with Orange Pi products  unless is ported.

  I thought that Orange Pi is such clone which can run all the software which runs on RaspBerry Pi..

  what else can run Orange Pi from other products ? Can it run Operating Systems and Android which was made for Banana Pi?  Can it run software which was created for Cubieboards or for Odroid?

  Did anyone do tests for compatibility?

  If you have your own experience with running some software for other products and it did work on Orange Pi--please share your results with community and explain how you did it --so it could run on Orange Pi.

Last weekend I tried the latest openSUSE image from the BananaPi site but it also did not work. Still waiting for the new SD card on the mail. I'll try other OSes after I receive the new SD card and I'll post my results. I'm also waiting for my USB to serial interface to arrive, which will certainly help a lot.

What I have noticed lately is this thing:

As usually I overtime like to check with finger how hot is CPU in OP, OP Plus and Pi2. So I can know if is better to turn it off in order it not overheat.

So in OP Plus and OP2 is on CPU is ink which has this written:

AllWinner H3.  So I touched it just maybe 5 times---and looks like ink-is disappearing.

  So It means that AllWinner uses not ideal quality ink when writes on top of its CPUs info about CPU?
