Maybe the best choice colud be to port and use bsp driver until open source version will be ready

That is what I said, but maybe I wasn't clear enough.

So, is that possible to have recent kernel 4.9, with ported bsp video driver and working video decoding acceleration? Are you going to look at it soon?

Theoretically yes, but bsp video driver is not something I would want to port. Actually I'm working on mainline U-Boot HDMI driver which is a playground to test different approaches for kernel driver. So in short, I'm working on that, but nothing in next one or two months. Also heavily depends on amount of my free time.

OpenELEC is Linux. If you want similar experience, use Armbian. We colaborate together on many issues and kernel is more or less the same. But we are off topic now...

There is not much of a difference between OE and LE at this point. However, LE has newer Kodi, which ...

Hi there, I would like to help, please read my previous post on "Openelec Build for OPI PC and 2 now with HW decoding" thread.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/40zcnt ... 3cc-opione.tar?dl=0

this is the latest libreelec 7 (kodi 16.1) with hardware decoding but thats easy

the videoplayer of kodi 17 has changed a lot so it is not some copy paste some lines are easy to adjust but other lines have to placed in other files
but before you can do that you have to spit through the kodi commits and look how it is done with other codecs (some functions have other names etc). like now i looking at +#ifdef HAS_CEDARX in the rendermanager or where VS_INTERLACEMETHOD_DISP2_BOB is placed now

it is more a like learning kodi videoplayer changes

but feel free to hop on it is nothing more as to adjust the hw patch for kodi 17 the rest of open/libre-elec is not important and already done

Yeah thanks andrejb you understand how it works try/wait and be stubborn  don't thank me

feedback should be welcome the libre7 could be optimized like addons ,i didn't check if libcec works etc so it would be as nice as the openelec-7 version

but 8 hours pff you have patience (-j option could help a lot)

are you or other interested people  familiar with git i am strugling with it ,so we can make a proper git repos for the old libre 7 and the libre8 hw development i'm a bit strugling with it and could have some advice . or that we could add it to the libreelec on jernej's git beacuse it is his efforts it evolved to this .

And another suggestion to make a git fork of the kodi-17.0 to have a place where we could add the patches to make it work with cedarx or even vdpau  so that later when that fork works it only should be a patch in the h3 project patches map .
