orange APi zero sound

Hello,

Has onyone succeeded to play music on the orangePiZero? I tried pin 7 and 8 on the 13 pin connector and also a usb soundcard. No luck at all

After a few days my first Orange Pi zero is working. I loaded a sd card with Lubuntu and one with Armbian. The pi is connected to the network with a RJ45 cable. In Armbian I use ssh from the command line. Lubuntu can be used with ssh or VNC. There is no screen of no keyboard directly connected to the zero. Everything is done from a network laptop

I added the usb card just for debugging. The ultimate goal is using the connector pins. I can play a .wav file. I used also aplay. The programs seem to proceed but no sound is heard. May be the sound is muted but I dont know how to unmute.

Every hint is welcome.

The problem is solved. There was a short-circuit in the female 3.5mm jack soldered on the wires comming from the 13 pin connector on the orange pi zero. After soldering another jack everything went easy. I just had to add a file .asoundrc to the user home folder. The .asoundrc file is build from scratch. It contains only a few lines which select the on-board sound card to output.

}

That's all. After adding this file the music coming from the orange pi zero is much better than one would expect from such a cheap device. It works fine with Lubuntu or armbian.

I tried to use the PIN 7 and 8 for audio output, too.
My problem with armbian debian and ubtuntu is that it's not showing up with
$ aplay -l
or
$ cat /proc/asound/cards

I also tried our .asoundrc confuguration but I didn't help...

How did you manage to use the onboard?
I would be very thankful for any help!

Sorry for answering late. I was too buzzy with other parts of my little Pi zero project.

Please try this.  Put a .wav file with some music in your home directory.  I named it WAVTEST.wav   

I took a printscreen so that You can see what happens:
opz00@orangepizero:~$ aplay WAVTEST.wav
Playing WAVE 'WAVTEST.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo
opz00@orangepizero:~$

Did You get the message that aplay is playing the file?
If You get this message likely something is wrong with the speaker interface.
Somewhere I saw a strange electrical drawing showing the direct connection of speakers without an amplifier.
No doubt that this wont work.
One audio channel can be heard between pin 7 and pin 2 (pin2 = 0V, ground)
The other between pin 8 and pin 2.  (pins from the single line connector)
The level of the outputs is only a few hundred millivolts. Too weak to drive a speaker without an amplifier.
Computer speakers with 3,5mm audio jack and buildin amplifier will work fine.
I am using armbian. Sound works great. On the usb interface I added a cheap usb soundcard.
My pi zero is playing 4 internet radio stations simultaneously. (in mono mode)
Noboddy wants to hear that in one single room. But it works.

Please feel free to ask additional information. If I am able to give an answer I'll do. (I am not a professional programmer)
