Please lets us know when the 4G-IOT Android Oreo port is ready.
It will be much easier to use if....
1) It supports stndard 720P and 1080P HDMI modes and DVI (no HDCP).
2) It boots into a standard Android GUI instead of a Mediatek custom phone interface.
The existing Android 6 is booting into a strange 720 x 1280 resolution at 48Hz that only a few monitors will work with. I suspect most customers will be unable to get a display out of it.
I have talked to a Mediatek guy who's upstreaming Mediatek ALSA drivers now and he said there is
no plan to make any work on moving the kernel from 3.18 to newer one as the chip we have is obsolete ;)
Even 3.18 could be ok, but it is compiled in 32-bit mode on 64-bit CPU... shame
This device should already be rooted. Did you try "adb root" "adb shell"?
If you attach the serial port you are root user.
Maybe what you are missing is su tools? Then use adb to install the apk.
The 4G-IOG board is currently not a friendly environment to work in. Maybe after the promised Android Oreo ships in a couple weeks independent developers will try to sort some of these issues out. But right now it is pointless to work on Android 6 when Android 8 is due in a couple weeks.
