I have an Orange Pi Lite. All I want it to do is to play one 4k30 video file in a loop after it boots up in a.

I tried various distros from the orangepi.org page. Armbian seems to not support hardware acceleration currently for the H3. H3droid does not support 4k resolution. Android 7.0 crashes all the time and playstore app won't start. Tried a couple of others without success.

Which image can I use that will play hardware accelerated 4k30 video (HEVC or h264 mp4) on the Orange Pi Lite out of the box?

It 100% supports hardware acceleration with legacy kernels. For 4K memory reservation could be the problem ... 4k was not well tested.

You can also try those old (unsupported) openelec builds https://dl.armbian.com/_openelec/
