Hi
Thanks a lot for your feedback.
afaik Media codec and Mali driver are not open, wifi chipset certification could be problematic too apart from wifiless pipc.
Yes this is an other problem - step :/
The idea of the project is to make it as open source / open hardware as possible for now, fully open source/ophardware will take time. Starting by finding a SBC with open hardware licence for the design is one of the first steps.
and overall screen prices is a problem you would need HDMI crt , while using refurbished mini-PC would allow use old VGA monitor.
The refurbished is a good strategy, there is a lot of initiative with this. But in some case it's not possible, or too much difficult, so the idea is to provide an alternative in this case. For example we spent 10 hours without success to install PrimTux in a refurbished laptop. Imagine if you have to do it for 20 laptop...
For the screen problems, With Raspberry Pi and C.H.I.P SBC it works nice with HDMI-VGA converter. So I'm testing if we can have a the same possibility with a powerfull open hardware SBC. Let see, I'm waiting the OPiPC+ for tests.
Do you know that big french companies are sending to trash *every day* 1 year old SSD drives, 3 TB disk or xeon PC etc ... . Why not write about about stopping that waste and starting to care about education sector ?
I knowed for computer, but didn't know for 1 year old SSD... there is already some local initiative with this in France, and if we can reach this SBC project we will certainly try to make more easier the reuse of disk drives, keyboard, laptop, screens for schools. We can also see this project as a try to have a lowcost and easy solution that make easier the refurbish of screen, keyboard and mouse for schools .
Et sinon GNU/Linux à l'école ? Bonne chance ....
Merci ! ça avance You can check it it : https://carto.framasoft.org/tags/primtux This carto project has started to localize on maps the use of opens source / libre solutions in France. We can see with this URL who use PrimTux in schools. I tried to deploy PrimTux locally, but we had problems with materials (not possible to use/ not enough / installation of PrimTux failed) , so I start this project to make it more easier when you have this kind problem |
