I have Debian Bookworm (server edition) running on my Orange Pi 5 +, but the terminal display resolution is set to 1920x1080. This was fine when using an HD monitor, but I now need to use an HDMI to VGA adapter and reduce the resolution for a monitor that cannot handle 1080. The adapter is working fine as an HD monitor is able to display the VGA signal, but I need to use a monitor that requires a lower resolution.
This is purely for terminal/commandline use as I have no GUI capability and as a server need none, but the output is set to 1920x1080 which the monitor I need to use cannot handle (so is black).
How can I simply set the resolution to something less than the default HD? I don't think xrandr is appropriate as there is no X GUI display and it simply returns "Can't open display :0". fbset does return information confirming the display is trying to use 1920x1080 (which cannot work on this monitor), but how can I set a different resolution so the monitor can actually display it?
