Can I fully trust a VIN report, or should I still check the car in person?

I’m planning to buy a used car, and a few people already told me about VIN reports. Of course, I’ll order one because, as I understand, it’s an important thing when checking a car. But can you fully trust it, or should you double-check something else too?

As far as I know, VIN reports only include officially confirmed info. So if some repairs were done in a private shop or an accident wasn’t reported to an insurance company, that won’t show up in the VIN report either.
