I just came across a blog about fresh family-friendly spots in Austin, and it’s got some great ideas! They mentioned Zilker Park with its Barton Springs Pool and Toybrary for younger kids. We’re planning a trip with our 4- and 7-year-olds. Has anyone been to Barton Springs with kids? Is it too cold for them? Also, any other family spots you’d recommend that weren’t on the blog?

I’ve been to Barton Springs with kids, and yes, the water is definitely chilly—it stays around 68°F year-round. My 7-year-old loved it after getting used to the temperature, but my 4-year-old didn’t last long. Bring towels and maybe a warm change of clothes. As for other family-friendly spots in Austin  in the blog https://loca.us/blog/fresh-places-to-visit-in-austin-with-family I highly recommend the Thinkery—it’s a hands-on children’s museum that’s a big hit. Also check out the Austin Nature & Science Center and Peter Pan Mini-Golf for fun and active options!

Barton Springs is chilly but fun for kids once they adjust. Bring towels and warm clothes for comfort.

Barton Springs can definitely be a brisk experience for little ones, but it’s a refreshing stop in Austin’s heat. For more family fun, the Thinkery and Austin Nature & Science Center are excellent picks.
