No, image for Plus cannot use for Plus 2E. But image for Plus can use for Plus2.

Sorry read your message till now. I am not sure what kind of lcd module you use and how you are going to connect it. If you want to connect a lcd model to plus2e, usually driver is need. Concernning whether the lcd could use for plus2e which is compatible with rpi3, the hardware for 40pin is competible, but software is not. Hope this could help you.
