Hi everybody,
I recently bought my first single board computer, specifically the Orange Pi 3 with 2GB RAM and 8GB eMMC. Android 7 was installed out of the box on the 8GB eMMC drive. After setting the language to English, the whole interface changed but none of the things shown on display (Hulu, YouTube, Skype, etc) actually work. Clicking ANY of the tiles results in WebView being opened to a play.store-URL with an error message saying: "Please install Google Play Store first".
So, I downloaded a Google Play Store .apk from APKmirror and installed that:
- Installation finished OK
- PlayStore icon appears in the Apps screen
- clicking the PlayStore icon opens a white screen with nothing on that stays on indefinitely or until I hit 'esc'
Next, I installed a YouTube .apk from APKmirror:
- Installation finished OK
- YouTube icon appears in the Apps screen
- clicking the YouTube icon opens the startup screen of the YouTube app (red YouTube logo on white background)
- after a few seconds an error message is displayed, saying that the YouTube app doesn't work without Google Play SERVICES
So, I downloaded a Google Play SERVICES .apk from APKmirror and installed that:
- Installation finished OK
- no new icons in the Apps screen (as expected with Play Services)
- clicking the YouTube icon now displays the startup screen of the YouTube app (red YouTube logo on white background) for almost 1 minute and then crashes back to the Apps screen
Any idea what is goind wrong and why? Or is there an Android image available to flash the Orange Pi 3 that INCLUDES Google Play Store and Services and has a working YouTube app?
Best regards,
rokyo
EDIT:
Installing a Firefox .apk from APKmirror and using www.youtube.com as a website works fine, but not really what I'm looking for if an actual YouTube app is present on the home screen... ;)
