I have already commented.

I have found that calling
fbi -d /dev/fb8 -T 1 -noverbose -a example.jpg
will remain in the memory, and the next calllaunch again another copy of fbi.
After a while the system crashes because of no memory.
You do not know how to call displaying the image and remove the fbi after that?
I have used
system("pkill -9 fbi"); at the moment it looks ok

Its ok, is big for that price.
The only drawback is that it is quite slow.
But if it is not used to display the video is ok.
